CAN NERDS REALLY BE THE ONES TO SAVE THE WORLD?
A VIEW TO A NERD IS NOW AVAILABLE
Chris Redding, author of License to Nerd, first in the Nerds Saving the World Series, has created yet another exciting installment with A View to A Nerd. Around the premise that nerds could actually be the ones to save the world, Chris Redding is writing this series to show us all how that may just be possible.

A View to a Nerd captures you instantly. How? Because waking up next to a dead guy can ruin your whole day. When a wise-cracking interior decorator wants to put her past behind her, the dead body of the mayor’s son makes it pretty clear that won’t happen too easily. A conservative former computer geek for the FBI is holding on too tightly to his past. His wife died under suspicious circumstances and he believes the decorator has the information to solve the case. Unfortunately for him, she isn’t talking… until a series of events convinces her she needs protection especially when her biggest secret threatens to destroy both their lives.

How Kaye on Goodreads.com (www.goodreads.com) describes it: “A mystery with a wise cracking heroine and hunky FBI agent. The story has good guys, bad guys, murder, mayhem and enough steamy sex scenes to make some blush.” Wendy Hines says: “This was such a fun cozy mystery to read! The characters all have depth and warmth. There's just the right amount of action to keep you reading.” This book was originally published as A View to a Kilt.

Chris started this series with License to Nerd, which captivated readers and got her great reviews. A View to a Nerd is now available, so get your copy now on Amazon.com.

Chris Redding has written a number of other romance mystery novels, including Blond Demolition, which is now part of the Sweet & Sensual: 6 Romance Novels by Bestselling Imajin Books Authors that can be found on Amazon.com (www.amazon.com). Chris also wrote Which Exit Angel, Corpse Whisperer, Incendiary, Along Came Pauly, Alchemy and Old Spice and The Drinking Game.

Chris Redding lives in New Jersey with her husband, two sons, one dog and three rabbits. She graduated from Penn State with a degree in journalism. When she isn’t writing, she works for a local winery. Her books are filled with romance, suspense and thrills.

    “The neglected nerd as hero”
"A View to a Nerd" is a satisfying mystery that finally gives that neglected non-heroic person, the nerd, a chance to shine as a hero. A multi-layered tale of secrets, lies, danger, sex (steamy), and mystical powers, this novel is hard to put down. It offers all one might want from a story of this genre, with vivid descriptions, exotic locales, and an imaginative plot. Chris Redding's imagination is once again stoked to the max.

    “And yet another fabulous read!”
You'll never view a Nerd the same way again...Chris Redding, as with her other books, starts off with a bang and pulls you right in. Better set aside some time to read this cover to cover, as you won't be able to put it down. Suspense, romance and light hearted character interaction makes this book a don't miss. I've read all of them and these continue to delight.

“Draws you in from the first line”
Waking up next to a dead guy can ruin your whole day. Definitely! I love books that draw you right in and "A View to A Nerd" does that from the first line. The beginning was sharp and powerful and provided clarity. While the book was quite good, I wish there was more sharpness in the book. The storyline was clever. Having said that there were multiple story lines, and at times, I found myself a little confused by them all.

In our story, the main character, Miriam, finds herself waking up next to a dead guy. She's a heavy sleeper, so the murder occurred without her knowledge. She meets her "nerd" , Gus, and the mystery and the characters unravel from there. Who killed the dead guy and why? Were they really after Miriam? Someone else? More importantly, why is Miriam so important to so many people? Will Miriam and Gus get together? Lots of mysteries. Overall, an enjoyable affordable read that will keep you guessing.

Books and Beyond Fifty Shades rated it: ★★★★
“Gifted by author in exchange for an honest review.”
Miriam wakes up to a dead man beside her. Her gay friend was murdered while sleeping right beside her and she didn’t hear a thing. Not only is he an old friend but the mayor’s son. She is questioned but for some unknown reason is being protected by an unknown source. Someone knows that she has information and is trying to dispose of her. Her ex-husband is an ex-cop who is going down for murder. Miriam is surrounded by murder.

Gus is hired to protect her. His wife is killed by a drunk driver. When he was hired to protect her, he wondered why someone would go to such lengths. As he gets to know Miriam, he finds himself attracted to her and they begin to fall into a romance. He has a feeling that she may have more information and tries to get it out of her while they are running for their lives.

A View to a Nerd is a witty mystery. Miriam is type A personality that never stops. She keeps her mind and body always moving. She knows things but at the same time doesn’t feel the need to share. Her character doesn’t give away any information. It has to be pulled out of her. Gus has many challenges ahead of him while protecting Miriam. The story has many twists and turns.

The story is well written and easy to follow. It also takes us into the minds of Miriam, Gus, and many other characters. Sometimes when the POV’s alternate between too many people, it can make the story confusing. This is not the case with this book. It flows beautifully and you find yourself engrossed in the story line. The story brings mystery, action and romance. This is a good read and a great story.

“the story was good. I love reading cop stories…”
Book starts with a bang where Mim wakes up in her friend's home, only to find him dead. Then she was taken to the police precinct first and then, hospital, where she meets Gus, a former FBI agent who is willing to act as her temporary bodyguard. Then sparks fly and they come quite close but then Mim starts getting suspicious and thinks is Gus with her because he really wants to or is she just there as a mean to some end.

For me, the story was good. I love reading cop stories and this author is really good at writing it. Although I started reading this because of the word nerd, but Gus is nowhere near our typical nerds so got a bit disappointed there. But otherwise everything is good. Great characterization.

    Liza O’Connor rated it: ★★★★
The title is a bit misleading. It sounds like a humorous comedy, when in fact, the book is an action/suspense/thriller with a fine romance on top. But then this is part of a series: The Nerds Saving the World, which should help focus readers to it’s true intent. Fortunately, the cover suggests thriller vs. humor as well, so readers shouldn’t be confused once they see the cover and read the blurb.

I enjoyed the romantic parts thoroughly. The main couple was most likable…usually. Miriam would sometimes get her hackles up but Gus was rock solid.

The underlying story is that Miriam’s ex-husband, a crooked cop is sentenced to serve time, and has sent her a picture that puts her life in danger because it contains documents between the painting and the backing that could destroy the Capano mafia family. While this is pretty obvious from the early on, her ex doesn’t admit it until mid-book.

Eventually, Miriam and Gus remove the backing and discover dairy pages that could blow the crime families of Philadelphia apart, only to discover a gun aimed at them. Shadowman’s assistant takes the papers and leaves. Only one sheet has fallen to the floor and is not seen by the fellow. Once the thug has gone, Miriam finds the page and whatever is on it is worthy of killing her to get it back.

Thus to keep her safe, the FBI tries to protect her, first at her house, then in a safe house. And what is better than sex to get your mind off troubles? (Yes, there are fun times here.)

Still Miriam is trying to grow a business and not thrilled to be cloistered indefinitely. And the lady has attitude. So naturally, when she gets word her mom is ill, she sneaks off.

When she reaches Montana, and discovers her mom’s just fine, she never once thinks, “Crap, I’ve been lured out in the open so someone can kill me.” And thus for me, the story weakened in ‘plausibility’, given her total lack of concern. Had she no knowledge her life might be in danger, perhaps she might pass if off as a weird prank, but when a person is being protected so no one CAN shoot them, concern that they’d just been tricked out of protection should be the first thought they have upon discovering Mom is alive and well. I’ll leave what happens next a mystery, other than to say the story does not disappoint on the HEA but someone important does get shot.

Overall, I thought this a delightful book. But due to the implausible reaction when she discovers her mother is feeling fine, I have to knock it down to a 4 star. Still, it’s a fun and fabulous read and if you love romance with your suspense, you should thoroughly enjoy it.

Books Laid Bare rated it: ★★★★
This was a good book to read, it held my attention and completely absorbed me in Mim’s story.

Min had more than her fair share of problems to deal with at the minute, she is reeling from the fact that after spending the night with friend, she wakes up only to find that he is lying dead beside her – huh! That is just the start to the cacophony of weird shit that begins to surround her making it clear that she is definitely at the top of someone’s shit list and they are not taking any prisoners with the games they are playing to get to her. The characters were well rounded and had enough intrigue to hold you captivated. There are some events that are uneasy to read and that are edging slightly towards the gory edge of the spectrum but they were completely in context of the book.

There is no secret for us the reader with regards to the reasoning of the attacks Mim is experiencing and I have to say that she does a cracking job of dealing with what is being thrown at her, I know that she has her mystery man, a cop no less who is more than willing to keep her safe from the danger that appears to surround her but I had a feeling that there was more to him and his presence in her life than met the eye. But I suppose only time will tell.

I liked Mim, I like the fact that no matter what was going on around her she never lost sight of what was important. She was sometimes distracted and easily irked but I have to say that she said some of the kookiest things that I have read in a long time when she was narked. Ever so slightly lame but totally in the minute.

But the kicker, is the ending because no matter how clued in you have felt all the way through the book, you will not for one second see the ending coming – it snuck up on me and batted me round the back of the head with the element of surprise well and truly weighted in its favour – it completely nailed me… well played!!!

    SAMPLE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
When I was ten years old. I was invited to read a story I wrote in front of the class. When I was done I had their rapt attention and for once I wasn’t that gawky kid with the glasses who talked too much. I thought that was pretty cool.

Do you plot or do you write by the seat of your pants?
I used to be an avowed plotter, but I had more energy then. Now I find it harder to keep the story in my head so I plot it out loosely.

What do you know now that you are published that you didn’t know pre-published that you wish you knew?
I wish I had known that the publishing world would change so dramatically. I was published more than ten years ago the first time and I feel as if I’m on the same spot in the learning curve now as I was then. The curve had just gotten higher.

What was the worst? Did you know it at the time?
Years ago I was told to write for Harlequin to get my foot in the door then I could break out to single title. I can’t write Harlequin romances. It just is not my style so I wasted a year trying to write like that.

If you have a day job, what is it?
I’m also a fiction ghostwriter. It has taught me how to be more disciplined in my writing. I more prolific than I’ve ever been. I also have a job that I call my “get out of the house” job. I work part time at a winery. They pay me to talk to people, about wine. And I will be writing a trilogy that involves a winery next year. I’m looking forward to it.

What do you consider your strengths in terms of your writing?
My strength is dialogue. I listen to people around me all the time. Sounds strange, but you get the rhythm of how a conversation plays out. It isn’t always simple back and forth.

What do you consider your weakness and what strategies do you use to overcome it?
My weakness is description. When I read I don’t care that her eyes are the color of the sky right after a thunderstorm. She has blue eyes, let’s move on. To me the story is more important. Or how the hero feels about those blue eyes. To overcome it I slow down and I give myself a word count goal each day. Descriptions get those words on paper.

    What’s your writing schedule?
I write just about every day. I will take stretches of time off, but it is planned. Writing every day keeps me in the habit, keeps the words flowing. I write first thing in the morning for sure when I am fresh. If I have to make any appointments, I make them for the afternoon. I sometimes write at night after dinner if I haven’t had any wine.

    What’s your favorite quote?
Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans. It’s John Lennon from a song he wrote for his son called Beautiful Boy. I’ve found it to be very true.

    Where do you write?
I have a laptop and where I write depends on the season. For almost a year I wrote in my kitchen because my old laptop needed to be plugged in. Since buying a new laptop, I write in my living room. The two are next to each other and have the same view of the woods behind my house.

    “We want the package, Madison.”
Holy crap. How did he know her name? How did he know about the package?
Her heart jumped into her throat. She yanked on her arm, looking around hoping for witnesses.

Turning back to him, she asked, “What package?”
Madison wanted to snarl at him, but she needed to play the innocent so she shuddered.
“The one your husband sent you,” in a voice that spoke of years of cigarette use.
“I don’t have any package.” Her words tumbled over themselves as he gripped her tighter. His hot, spicy breath wrinkled her nose.

When they had worked together, he'd known before she did that she had to pee. She'd never met anyone so in tune with her. Maybe she never wanted to have anyone know her that way again.

"You can prevent many more houses from not burning down with us."

A bell rang, but Detective Angela Sky wasn’t getting her wings.
Not that she wasn’t due, she just hadn’t made the commitment yet. She’d get around to it, right now she had a murder to investigate.
She fished her Smartphone out of her pocket to see who had sent her a text message. That’s what had been ringing, well, dinging because she’d left it on the default sound for incoming messages. Dang technology. Harder to solve than most homicides.
Gabriel again. Sighing, she put the device back in her pocket. He’d have to wait. She pulled her shirt from her sticky back. Dang New Jersey humidity. The dog days of August in New Jersey was not her idea of a good time. She didn’t want murders of angels to take place at all, but she’d enjoy a cooler climate. Even the sun going down hadn’t taken the heat out of the air.
The body in question had already been removed, but had there been a chalk outline it would have included wings.
Bunny Watts, the deceased, had received her wings more than a hundred years before. She’d been a guardian angel, but no one in Heaven or Earth seemed to know what she was doing down a dark alley on a humid Saturday night in the small shore town.

Another person had been there too and that someone had killed Bunny. It was Angela’s job to solve the crime. The way kidnappers crossing state lines were FBI jurisdiction, angels’ deaths were her bailiwick.
The only witness sat in a Sea Witch, New Jersey, police car.
Sea Witch? What the heck kind of name was that for a town?
The cop cars’ lights flashed across the scene in the alley. The hour was too late for many bystanders so the cops had the place to themselves. Some murmured to each other. A few smoked cigarettes.
“We’re done here, Detective,” said the guy from the Ocean County prosecutor’s office. The scorn dripped off his words.
“You got a problem?” Angela asked, looking at the average man with an average build. He held himself as if he had so much to offer the world. Why was this type attracted to law enforcement? Did they need the gun and badge to justify their existence?
Or was he one of those who had never believed in angels and now resented their presence on Earth? Heck, they’d been here all along. Angels only recently revealed themselves to humans. Some humans were not so happy about it.

She stood, barefoot, on her wide, front porch, watching the trees be blown almost in half.
And her dead sister’s voice played in her mind.
“It’s like nature has to violently clean up,” Morgan would say as they stood in this very spot.

    They both loved storms.
The power of nature impressed Chelsea. Morgan concentrated on the aftermath. Odd that she never thought of the aftermath of her own actions.
“How so?” Chelsea would ask her older by a few minutes sister.
Morgan’s eyes would be wide. “Because a storm gives the trees a haircut, gets rid of the ones that are weak. And on top of that, the rain helps the ones that do survive.”
    Chelsea would nod.
But this storm didn’t bring with it the same renewal. Somewhere deep in Chelsea, she knew this storm was different. This storm could bring destruction.
Or worse this storm might not bring the wanted rain for those trees that survived.
    She sighed.
Right now she missed her sister more than anything.
Then Chelsea’s firehouse pager went off. “Unit 37 you have a fully-involved structure fire on Briar Lane.”

    “Good. May I move in?”
“He doesn’t have a say in that,” Dolores said.
Grace slid her gaze to her new landlord.
“I have a few questions for Grace,” Zach said.
Bet he ran a background check. “Oh? Is your name on the lease?”
His jaw tightened around his already chiseled face. “No, but I have a vested interest in you being the right tenant.”
Grace looked at Dolores who said, “Just humor him. I have to get back to work. You need anything else? All the utilities are turned on. I took the liberty of putting them in your name, you just have to call the companies with the rest of the information.” She backed away toward her Toyota parked on the street. “The numbers are on the table by the door.”
    “Thanks, Dolores.”
She waved a hand at Grace and slid into her car. Zach watched her drive away as Grace watched him. When he turned his gaze back to her, she handed him a box.
“I’m not a moving company,” he said.
“You want to interrogate me, you have to work. I only have today to move in and get settled. I work the next four days.”
He looked at the box in his hands as if it were an alien, then shrugged. “Fine.”
Grace didn’t look back to see if he followed her. She assumed he intended to extract information about her last residence and that last case. With a deep breath and a heavy suitcase, she braced herself for the onslaught.
“Tell me about Ridge Oaks,” he said when they reached the apartment above the garage.
    “What specifically?”
So he had done his homework. Her name appeared in the database since she’d initially been charged with murder. A shiver moved her spine when she thought about those days.
“Tell me about the murder of your boyfriend’s mother.”

“She’s due any minute now, Uncle Bill,” said Uncle Ted.
The squat man twittered around the tall, lean man. They’d been together forever and Bill didn’t know why Ted didn’t realize that he was always fashionably late. He gazed into his Cheval mirror and tugged at his sleeves.
“Hurry. Let me help with the cuff links. It’s daytime. Should you be wearing tails?” Ted said.
Bill swatted him away. “I’m fine. I can do the cuff links. I can tell your arthritis is acting up.”
Ted wrung his gnarled hands. “You’re right. Did you lock Martha in her room?”
Bill grunted. “No. She’s harmless. Besides, she’ll serve the tea.”
    “And what else?”
He turned to Ted. “Stop worrying. We’ll meet Delaney’s man and everything will be fine.”
    “But he’s a detective.”
“So? There are no bodies in this house.”
    “Not today,” Ted said.
“He isn’t here to investigate a crime. He’s here to meet his wife’s family.”
Ted shook his head, his hand-wringing increasing with fervor. “Maybe we should have gone out.”

“You, my dear, haven’t gone out in ages.”
When he finished with his bow tie, Bill put his hands on Ted’s arms. “Hush. All will go well and they’ll be back to New York City in a matter of hours.”
    “I’m being a goose, I know.”
Bill planted a kiss on Ted’s bulbous nose. “Deep breaths.”
A doorbell chimed a show tune and both men jumped. Ted hurried out of the room and down the steps. He expected his niece and her new husband. Instead on the doorstep stood Officer Hallahan and a very dirty looking man.
“Oh, Officer Hallahan. How nice to see you. Do come in.”
“I can’t stay, but this man needs a bath and a hot meal. Would you oblige? He isn’t dangerous and I know you’ll find him a home like the others.”
Ted licked his lips. Should he mention his niece is coming? He shook his head. She wasn’t due for another hour or so.
“Come in. What’s your name?” He waved to the officer and shut the door behind him and the homeless man.
“Uh, Jeffrey Klemens. I’d appreciate a hot meal. Then I’ll be on my way,” the smelly man said.
Ted’s nose wrinkled and he turned away so the man wouldn’t see. “We’ll get you a quick bath or would you prefer a shower?”
Ted led him down a hall that bisected the house. Behind the kitchen was a room with a small shower and sink.
    “Shower would be fine.”

Paul arrived home that night “Jeeves, I’m in love,” he said to his butler.
The emotion filled him with a sense of purpose. He had a name and a face. Now he could find the address. With Jeeves’ help.
Paul Vincenzo’s butler peered over his half-glasses. He sat at the giant island in the giant kitchen. “That’s the third time this week.”
Paul undid his bowtie, dropped it on the kitchen counter, and then pulled out his cufflinks. Jeeves just didn’t understand.
Paul thought back to the way her hair glowed under the chandelier. As if the heavens had shone a light just on her. He couldn’t have stopped looking at her even if he’d gone blind. “No, really. I met the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen.
Jeeves put down his newspaper to sip from a glass of white wine. “I’ll bite. Who is she? A Greek heiress slumming it in New Jersey? No? A starlet on sabbatical.”
Paul shook his head. He understood the butler’s reluctance to believe him. Women had always been a salad bar to him. He’d wanted to taste them all, but this time it was different. Daria was different.
“Jeeves, I’m serious. Her name is Daria Jacks.” He’d liked the feel of her name in his mouth. Daria. He rolled it over in his mind. Daria. What an interesting name.
“And what does this fine specimen of a woman do?”
Jeeves’ question brought him back to reality. Not many people at the ball had even known her name, let alone where she’d come from. Like Cinderella, she’d lost her shoe. “I think she’s a doctor. Maybe a vet.”
“You think?” Jeeves lifted his paper back up to read.
“I didn’t actually get to talk to her.”

    The Drinking Game
    Excerpt:
The hair on the back of Detective Sean Gaudette’s neck stood on end.
Ken Westin, his former partner, had summoned him here and now the man wasn’t answering his door bell. “Ken, cut the theatrics.”
An eerie silence answered back. Icy hands gripped his spine and his pulse quickened.
He was late, but Ken wouldn’t have left for the bar without him. At least the old Ken wouldn’t have. Sean didn’t think so. Of course, he hadn’t seen his old friend in several months.
Sean’s cop instincts told him all was not well in the state of Denmark. Looking around, no neighbors walked dogs. No one was about that Sean could ask about Ken. He half expected a tumbleweed to roll down the street.
He tried the solid metal door. With a creak it swung open an inch. Not good. Ken never unlocked his front door except to let in someone.
The low hum of adrenaline began in Sean’s blood. Looking in the window, he saw only darkness, no movement. Night had fallen a little early with the threat of thunderstorms.
Cicadas yelled as if they needed to announce just how hot it was. Sweat trickled down Sean’s back and he wished for a beer to drink and shorts to wear.
“Damn.” He contemplated calling for backup, but unless he could get a local cop, anyone from his office was at least fifteen minutes away. What had happened in there?
Flipping opened his cell phone, he dialed the Jenkins Crossing police. When he hung up a patrol car was on the way. The siren screamed to him in the distance.
Squaring his shoulders, he leaned back and kicked open the door. With gun drawn, he entered the house. Movement in the kitchen caught his eye. “Freeze, police."
The click of the sliding glass door closing notched up the adrenaline in his system. Break in?
Footsteps pounded down the wooden steps of Ken’s back deck. The open floor plan provided no hiding places, but the bathroom which Sean peaked into on his way to the kitchen. The action of rushing across the room would be suicide if he didn’t check for bad guys on his way.
Unfortunately, that gave whoever had just left, time to get out of sight.
Sean turned on the back light, but saw no one. “Damn.” Had he imagined it? A breeze rustled the leaves. No other sound reached his ears from the woods.
    “Ken?”
Closing the slider, the detective turned back to the now even darker house. No boards creaked indicating movement. He swallowed as sweat pooled in his armpits. His mind ran back to another empty house on another dark night and the grisly discovery he’d made. He shook the stressful and unwelcome thoughts out of his brain.
“Freeze,” someone commanded from the front door.
Sean’s heart skipped a beat. “I’m the one who called you.”
Sean approached the uniform with his hands visible. He hoped he was approaching a uniform. The outside streetlight made the man only a silhouette. He hated staring down the barrel of someone else’s gun.
When the copper didn’t put down his weapon, Sean identified himself, flashing his badge. “I think someone went out the back door. Search the woods behind here.”
Still waiting for the cop to react, Sean started up the stairs, thankful his eyes had adjusted to the darkness. Dread tugged at his feet, slowing his steps.
Snap out of it. You have a job to do.
“Ken?” he called, though he no longer expected an answer. He hoped his friend had gone to the bar without him.
His search of the upstairs proved him wrong. Turning on the light of the bedroom Ken used as an office, Sean found his former partner
“Ken, shit.” Jamming his gun back in its holster, he strode a cross the tiny room and put fingers on Ken’s neck.
Sean’s eyes dropped closed as he withdrew his hand to call his office. To the person who answered he said, “We have a murder on our hands.”
